Looking for a few more Followers

  1. As it happens, I'm sitting right now in a research seminar on social media and we're discussing intrinsic and extrinsic motivators to get more visibility and to get people involved. Money was certainly one trick on the list :)

  3. It's a little bit different depending on whether you want visibility or to get people to contribute to your community.

    For visibility alone, we discussed the possibilities to harvest social network connection information from the network algorithmically. This information can be used to view which "nodes" in the network have most connections and influence over the others. These central nodes, blog celebrities and such, can then be solicited for help in making your product known.

    Getting people to contribute on your project varies on the type of people. Motivating people to de-lurk and comment on your posts can be as easy as defining more clearly what you're interested on hearing from them. "Please comment!" is much less effective than first explaining a rule from your system and then asking opinions on whether it is realistic or not, for example.
