I am at heart, a history buff, and my interest in history includes reading history, visiting battlefield sites, watching movies about historical subjects, and a strong focus on Frederick the Great of Prussia and the Seven Years War.
Here is a picture of a Saxon fortress cannon at Koenigstein Castle in Saxony. I took this picture in 1996 whilst on the Christopher Duffy tour of Seven Years War battlefields. The Saxon carriage colors of black and yellow is particularly striking.
I love these guns at the Königsstein too. I think that there was no information at the site to learn what size the guns had. I would suppose that they were 24pdrs. I made some photos at the fortress too visible on my blog here and there. I would recommend to use the steam boat on the Elbe-river to see the landscape and the fortress from another perspective.
That is a big gun and as you say Jim, the black and yellow carriage is very eye catching.
ReplyDeleteA very impressive looking cannon. The Saxon carriage colours are lovely, very striking.
ReplyDeleteComplete reversal of Austrian guns, and it looks nicer!!! - What is that, a 24pdr?
