Lots to chew on there so I will have to do some fine tuning of my game forces.

I suspect that the Duffy error on Russian squadrons is a typo in the book as there are quite a number of them in the book, something that is the fault of the publisher rather than of the author.

Thank you also for the clarification on the definition of "irregular cavalry". I had assumed that this meant Cossacks, but your interpretation makes a lot more sense to me.

Jim
Der Alte Fritzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01578422757511400566noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6504742686650223041.post-71099299334218125192017-12-14T21:10:02.297-06:002017-12-14T21:10:02.297-06:00Hi Jim, a few observations
The Duffy Prussian Cav...Hi Jim, a few observations

The Duffy Prussian Cav Sqd of 129 Sqd is wrong. DKFDG has the Prussian Cav at 83 Sqd. Now the total men is probably right as an avg Sqd was 120 men x 83 = 9,960 men so within 540 men so close enough. It would possibly affect the amount of maneuver units.

The Duffy Russian Cav of 21 Sqd is actually 25 Sqd of CR, Mtd Gr, DR totalling the 3,382 men. The 3,000 irregulars is the 25 Sqd of Hussars that while were not as bad as cossacks, were not as good as the regular Cav, but are used as Battle cav as they are short reg cav. In total the Russians have 50 Sqd of Cav totalling about 6,000 Cav. The Cav ratio s/b 1.75.

On top of that DKFDG lists 32 Cossack Sotnia's (Co paper strength of 100 men) totalling 3,200 men. I think 5 Sotnia's = 1 Pulk or regt for tactical deployment.

Maybe Duffy mixed up the Cossack and Hussars totals as it appears only one is listed?

For you arty ratio I think you are shorting the Prussians. If you do the 117 Prussian Field guns divided by the 60 Russian field guns (no Shuvalovs in the count) the Arty ratio is 1.95 so 2.0.

The question is how does your rules treat battalion guns? If they are part of the Inf, then for the Russian Brg add a bonus in musketry for the 28-30 Shuvalov How that were distributed among the Inf, as these are short range Arty.

The Russian Arty is about 1/3 each Hvy, Med, and Unicorn How. The Prussian Arty is about 40% Hvy, 35% Med, and 25% How but you can easily make them all 1/3rd.

Looking at the Inf strength. DKFDG has the Russian Army at Zorndorf at 44,300. This does not include the approx 5,000 converged Gren and supporting troops guarding the Russian Wagenburg. 44,300 less 3,200 Cossacks = 41,100 less 6,100 Cav = 35,000 less 2,000 arty manning the Regt, Field and Shuvalow How = 33,000 Inf. 33,000 Inf /55 Inf Battalions = about 600 men per battalion, so while Rusiian Brg may be bigger the battalions are not. This is because 1) the Russians in the SYW struggled in keeping units in the field up to strength 2) while the Russians did not normally converge Gr Co in the SYW, they did here to protect the Wagenburg deducting 11% of their Inf force to do so.

The Inf Ratio is 33,000/25,000 = 1.3

I know I have presented a lot and if you need to see any documentation I can send it to you to review.

I applaud your use of the COA Zorndorf boardgame map for as a source for the table as I bought the GMT boardgame Prussia's Glory II partly for the 4 maps that are in it.

I would strongly encourage you to look at the Kronoskaf 2 DKFDG Maps for Zorndorf. Double click one on the map and then again to open up a large zoomed good clarity map.

Jung Fritzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06464191565445705066noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6504742686650223041.post-69327838279441735862017-12-13T07:22:25.687-06:002017-12-13T07:22:25.687-06:00Fascinating to read how you have gone about creati...Fascinating to read how you have gone about creating the forces for this game.Steve J.https://www.blogger.com/profile/12143308117853983963noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6504742686650223041.post-9267444346364983422017-12-13T04:04:30.211-06:002017-12-13T04:04:30.211-06:00It looks like the refight will be stunning, well d...It looks like the refight will be stunning, well done on the research!Herkybirdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14259986798117222889noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6504742686650223041.post-63337440813756378462017-12-13T03:00:28.207-06:002017-12-13T03:00:28.207-06:00Thanks Jim for taking the trouble to explain how y...Thanks Jim for taking the trouble to explain how you scale the game.
